Sometimes life brings opportunities that feel incredibly meaningful — the kind that connect personal experience with the chance to support others.
I’m very proud to share that I am now a Cancer Champion with Lingen Davies Cancer Support 💛
Cancer Champions help their communities feel more confident talking about cancer. That means encouraging people to attend screening appointments, reminding people to listen to their bodies and speak to health professionals if something doesn’t feel right, and helping to reduce the stigma that can still surround cancer conversations.
But just as importantly, it means listening. Hearing people’s experiences and feeding those insights back to Lingen Davies helps them continue improving cancer services and support across our region.
This role feels especially meaningful to me because cancer has touched my own family.

Why This Matters to Me
My involvement with this work has been deeply inspired by my mum’s cancer recovery journey.
Throughout her treatment and recovery, she received incredible support from Lingen Davies Cancer Support. Seeing first-hand the care, compassion and community that surrounded her made a huge impression on me. It showed me just how important that kind of support can be during one of life’s most difficult times.
It also planted the seed for something I’ve wanted to do for a while — creating a space where others can experience that same sense of encouragement, connection and renewal.
As a qualified Mountain Leader based in Shropshire and the founder of Ray of Sun Adventures, I’ve seen time and time again how powerful time outdoors can be for both physical and mental wellbeing.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve also had the privilege of leading on the Titty Trail charity walks across Shropshire and Wales, raising awareness and funds for breast cancer causes. Being part of those events reinforced just how powerful community and shared experiences can be.
All of these experiences have led to the launch of something very close to my heart.

Walk for Wellbeing – Gentle Guided Walks for People Affected by Cancer
This April I’m launching Walk for Wellbeing, a series of 8 FREE monthly guided walks running from April to November 2026 across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and Mid Wales.
These walks are designed especially for people living with cancer or recovering from cancer.
Led through Ray of Sun Adventures, the sessions will be free, inclusive, and accessible for all abilities. The walks will be gentle and beginner-friendly, with a relaxed pace and plenty of time to stop, breathe, chat or simply take in the surroundings.
The aim isn’t distance or speed. It’s about creating a safe and welcoming environment where people can:
rebuild confidence after treatment
improve physical wellbeing at their own pace
reduce stress and feelings of isolation
reconnect with the outdoors and with themselves
Nature has an incredible way of helping people reset and recharge. Even a short walk can lift mood, reduce anxiety and help people reconnect with what their bodies are capable of.

A Space for Connection
One of the most powerful aspects of these Lingen Davies Walk for Wellbeing events will simply be being together.
Everyone attending will understand, in their own way, the impact cancer can have. There is no expectation to talk about personal experiences unless someone wants to. Some people may come for quiet time outdoors, others for gentle conversation — both are completely welcome.
Sometimes just being surrounded by people who understand the journey can make a huge difference.
Through accessible routes and compassionate leadership, each session will be adapted to suit individual needs so everyone can feel comfortable and supported.
More than just a walk, this programme is about community, belonging, and rediscovering confidence.

Launching this programme as part of my role as a Cancer Champion feels incredibly special. Inspired by my mum’s journey and the support she received, I hope these walks create a small but meaningful space where people can feel supported, strengthened and reminded that they are not alone.
Fresh air, gentle steps, and good company — sometimes that’s exactly what we need. 🌿

This is just wonderful! I will share with those I know. I think we all know someone affected by cancer and this will be great for so many of them! 👍
