LANX Ogden Hiking Boots Review

A Rugged, Stylish Boot for Everyday Adventures

Disclosure: My LANX Ogden boots in Brown Distressed were kindly gifted to me. As always, all thoughts are my own, and I only review gear I’ve genuinely tested and believe in. 🥾

The Lanx Ogden Hiking Boots

1. First Impressions

The LANX Ogden boot means business – in the best way. With its dark brown distressed leather, lace-to-toe styling, and Vibram sole, it has that classic hiking boot silhouette with an urban edge. It looks equally at home on a muddy trail or grabbing a coffee post-hike. The build feels solid, the finish is premium, and overall… it gives off “ready for anything” energy.

2. Fit & Comfort

Sizing: True to size. I didn’t size up or down and they fit well with mid-weight hiking socks.

Break-in Period: There is one. They were a bit stiff out of the box and needed a couple of wears to soften up. I also found they felt better when I laced them more loosely than usual – a snug fit without over-tightening is the sweet spot.

Support: Once on, they’re supportive and sturdy without feeling bulky. Great ankle support and a nice roomy toe box.

3. Weight & Bulk

Surprisingly lightweight considering how rugged they look. I wouldn’t call them “featherlight,” but they don’t weigh you down – ideal for long walks and all-day wear. You get the durability without the drag.

4. Waterproofing & Materials

The Lanx Ogden Hiking Boots are made with water-resistant leather (1.6mm–1.8mm), which holds up well in drizzle, wet grass, and the occasional puddle. However, it’s worth noting these boots aren’t fully waterproof and don’t feature a GORE-TEX liner, so they’re not the best option for very wet or wintery conditions.

The leather is tough but has a distressed finish that makes scuffs look cool rather than clumsy. A real bonus for anyone who sees muddy boots as a badge of honour.

5. Grip & Traction

The Vibram Arctic Grip sole is one of the standout features – designed to handle everything from icy pavements to slippy forest trails. It offers great traction without feeling clunky. I’ve tested them on loose gravel, muddy woodland, and wet tarmac – no drama, no sliding.

6. Durability & Build Quality

LANX doesn’t mess around when it comes to construction. The cemented sole means the boots are built to last, but what’s even better is their recrafting service. You can get them resoled or repaired as they age, which is a big win for sustainability (and your wallet in the long run).

Everything from the stitching to the laces feels high quality. The attention to detail is obvious – and appreciated.

7. Support & Stability

These boots give great support, especially for ankles, and feel secure underfoot on uneven terrain. There’s also a nylon shank inside for extra stability, making them ideal for moderate to challenging trails.

8. Lacing System & Adjustability

Classic lace-to-toe design, which allows for a fully custom fit. They come with two lace options – a brown and orange flecked lace for a bit of flair and a more traditional round brown lace. Once tied, they stay put. No mid-hike retightening necessary.

9. Value for Money

These are a premium boot with a premium price tag coming in at £240. The quality and repairability make them a solid investment, but they might not be within everyone’s budget – especially considering they’re not fully waterproof. A great buy if you’re after a sustainable boot that’ll last, but probably not your first pick for extreme weather or technical hikes.

10. Who They’re Best For

✅ Adventurers looking for a tough, stylish boot that can handle year-round use.

✅ Hikers who want solid ankle support and excellent grip.

✅ People who like to invest in sustainable, repairable footwear.

✅ Anyone who wants a boot that gets better with age (like cheese and friendships)

✅ Day hikers or urban explorers who want a boot that works on trails and looks good in the pub after

❌ Not ideal for very wet or wintry conditions – these boots are not fully waterproof or GORE-TEX-lined, so they’re better suited to drier days or shorter walks in damp weather

❌ Not the best choice for ultra-technical mountain routes or multiday expeditions in harsh conditions

Final Verdict

7.5/10 – A well-built, stylish hiking boot that shines in everyday outdoor adventures. The LANX Ogden delivers comfort, support, and long-term durability once broken in – with bonus points for its sustainable repair options. It’s not your go-to for extreme weather or serious mountaineering, but for year-round hiking, countryside strolls, and general adventuring, it’s a solid pick with plenty of character.
