A stylish and sustainable twist on a best-selling classic.
Disclosure: My Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX boots were kindly gifted to me. However, as always, this review reflects my personal thoughts and honest experience.

1. First Impressions
The Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX immediately gives off premium vibes with its full-grain leather upper, stylish two-tone “Chocolate Chip/Roasted Pecan” colorway, and sleek profile. They look equally at home on a rugged trail or an urban adventure. The fact that they come with two lace options (round and flat) is a nice touch for those who like to customize their look.
2. Fit & Comfort
Sizing: Danner recommends sizing down half a size if you’re in between sizes. Otherwise, they seem true to size with a spacious medium fit that shouldn’t feel restrictive, even for wider feet.
Break-in Period: Practically non-existent. These boots feel comfortable straight out of the box, with no dreaded “blister phase.”
Cushioning & Support: The removable ECO Ortholite footbed provides multi-layered comfort, making long hikes more enjoyable. The low-profile DPDX last means they feel just as natural on city streets as on rocky trails.
3. Weight & Bulk
Weighing in at 36 oz per pair, these are surprisingly lightweight for a leather hiking boot. They’re so light you could skip around in them (if that’s your thing).
Despite the weight savings, they don’t feel flimsy or underbuilt.
4. Waterproofing & Breathability
The GORE-TEX liner is 100% waterproof, so wet trails, puddles, and light stream crossings won’t be a problem.
Unlike some waterproof boots that feel like foot saunas, the liner is made from 45% recycled materials and remains breathable, meaning less sweaty feet in warm weather.
5. Grip & Traction
The Vibram® Fuga outsole with Megagrip technology gives excellent traction on both wet and dry surfaces.
The self-adapting lugs adjust to different terrain, making them ideal for mud, rock, and loose gravel.
My experience: Initially, I found the sole a bit slippy on wet ground. However, after a couple of walks, the soles wore in a bit, and I haven't had any problems since.
6. Durability & Build Quality
Danner doesn’t cut corners—the leather is put through six different tests before making the cut.
The stitching, laces, and outsole all feel sturdy and high-quality.
One of the biggest selling points: these boots are recraftable. That means Danner can resole and recondition them when they start to wear, keeping them on the trail for years to come.
7. Support & Stability
The 4.5” height offers decent ankle support without being restrictive.
The nylon shank helps add some extra stability without unnecessary stiffness.
Ideal for day hikes, multi-day treks, and casual urban wear—but serious mountaineering might require a beefier boot.
8. Lacing System & Adjustability
Classic lace-up design with two lace options (flat and round) for a customised fit.
Once tied, they stay put—no annoying retying every mile.
9. Value for Money
These aren’t the cheapest boots on the market, but you’re paying for long-term durability, sustainability, and comfort.
The re-crafting option makes them an investment piece, potentially saving money in the long run.
The 365-day warranty adds peace of mind.
10. Who They’re Best For
✅ Danner Boots are best for hikers looking for a durable, stylish, and eco-conscious boot.
✅ Those who want a lightweight yet capable hiking boot.
✅ Urban explorers who want boots that can handle trails AND city streets.
✅ People who love a sustainable option with a long lifespan.
❌ Not ideal for ultra-technical mountaineering or super-cold winter conditions.
Danner’s Group Hike Test
Recently, Danner attended one of my group hikes, giving the ladies an opportunity to try the Mountain 600 Leaf GTX boots on a 15 km hike. Five women put them to the test across varied terrain, and here’s what they had to say:
➡ "They feel like trainers" Aby
➡ "I was a little reluctant to start a 15km hike in a pair of new Danner Boots, but after being reassured I was quickly booted up and on my way. They were a delight, light as a feather and felt like i was walking in trainers! Looking to purchase some for my upcoming hike... will definitely be recommending them!" Louise
➡ “Was very kindly gifted a pair of Danner boots today to hike the beautiful Brecon Beacons. Over the years I have hiked in many top brands – I can honestly say these are by miles THE BEST. Soooo light on my feet and soooo comfortable. The leather was unbelievably soft. After miles and miles over different terrains, these certainly did the job. I cannot recommend these highly enough!" Nicola who had now gone on to buy a pair for herself.
Final Verdict
⭐ 9/10 – A top-tier hiking boot that blends performance, sustainability, and style.
The Danner Mountain 600 Leaf GTX is comfortable, waterproof, stylish, and built to last—making it a fantastic option for hikers and everyday adventurers alike.
Tried, Tested & Trail-Approved 🥾
After testing out a new pair of boots recently that absolutely tore my heels to shreds (honestly… rude 😅), I’ve come to appreciate my Danner boots even more than I already did.
They’ve become my go-to for long hikes, mountain days, and everyday adventures — lightweight, supportive, waterproof, and ridiculously comfortable once on.
What I love most? We’ve had Danner join several ROSA events, giving people the chance to properly test them out on hikes — and I’ve never had anyone report blisters, sore feet, or “new boot regret.”
Safe to say… they’ve earned their spot in the good books 💛
If you’re on the hunt for a reliable pair of hiking boots, these are absolutely worth a look.

Danner-style boot talk always pulls me into the same question: will this thing survive real use or just look good on the product page? I have ruined cheap boots on wet ground and learned not to pretend comfort is optional. Outdoor gear makes people practical fast. Before ordering casual pieces around a hiking trip, https://romwe.pissedconsumer.com/review.html belongs in the decision so the cheap option does not become clutter. Fashion sites can still be useful for lighter items, but sizing and returns need to be clear.
I think I’ll be getting a pair!
These boots look great! So good to hear about a boot that is waterproof AND comfy and light!!
