About the event
We’ll begin with a view of the world-renowned Iron Bridge, a pioneering marvel constructed in 1779 as the world’s first iron bridge. Standing over the River Severn, this groundbreaking structure revolutionized design and engineering, paving the way for cast iron to be used in bridges, aqueducts, and buildings worldwide. We’ll also visit the original toll house, where we can learn about the bridge’s historical significance.
Our trail will continue toward Ironbridge Coalport and the Bedlam Furnaces—one of the region's notable blast furnaces that fueled the Industrial Revolution. Alongside its rich industrial history, Ironbridge Gorge is full of natural beauty, with wooded paths and scenic views making this hike both a cultural and nature experience.
