This is a proper mountain day. A steep, powerful, wildly beautiful journey up one of Wales’ most iconic peaks — where ancient woodland, thundering waterfalls, glacial lakes, rocky ridges, and huge summit views all come together in one unforgettable circular route.
Cadair Idris has that rare mountain magic. It feels dramatic from the very beginning. We’ll begin at Dôl Idris Car Park, following the famous Minffordd Path as it climbs steadily through lush temperate rainforest beside the Nant Cadair waterfall.
As we gain height, the woodland slowly opens into the vast glacial landscape of Cwm Cau, revealing one of the most breathtaking sights in southern Eryri: Llyn Cau. Watched over by the towering cliffs of Craig Cwm Amarch and Penygadair, this high mountain lake has an atmosphere all of its own — wild, mysterious, and steeped in Welsh legend. It’s the perfect place to pause before the route steepens again…
